The pandemic has only reinforced this thinking that micro schools and community learning pods matter –
- To promote deep thinking and creativity
- To help kids have a sense of accountability and ownership on their learning outcomes
- The feeling of empathy and community when learning happens in small groups
- Tailor made learning according to the individual child and focus on what the child can do versus can’t do which in turn fosters independence and confidence
What is a micro school or learning pod and why will this re-shape education especially in the early years to begin with?
As the name suggests, a micro school is exactly that – a small school or group, usually of mixed age group. Micro-schools make learning personal. With unique themes, links to community, and porous walls, they can ignite learning for students and innovation for their areas.
Psychologist Robin Dunbar’s research suggests that most humans can manage about 150 friendships. When a school gets beyond that number, it becomes difficult for adults to keep track of the needs of individual students. Micro-schools embrace this constraint and stay small. They typically rely on multi-age groupings and promote powerful sustained teacher-student relationships – which is critical in early childhood.
We are committed to bringing back women into the workforce and empowering them to start their entrepreneurial journey in the field of early childhood.
